Forecast Minimum System Load (MSL1) condition in the VIC region on 21/12/2024
AEMO has detected that there is an elevated risk of insufficient demand to maintain a secure operating state in the VIC region on 21/12/2024.
Minimum System Load (MSL) conditions are forecast when regional demand is less than the relevant MSL threshold. The advisory MSL thresholds are:
o MSL1 - 1705 MW
o MSL2 - 1205 MW
o MSL3 - 705 MW
The regional demand is forecast to be below the MSL1 threshold for the following period:
From 1130 hrs to 1330 hrs 21/12/2024. Minimum regional demand is forecast to be 1643 MW at 1300 hrs.

Participant Impact and Requirements: Planned maintenance will be conducted on the 19th of December 2024, between 07:00AM and 05:00PM AEST on the core network infrastructure within the AEMO Market Network in Brisbane.
During there change, there will be two instances of 1-3 second service disruption to MarketNet Services accessed via Brisbane as traffic moves from the active to the standby load balancing unit. All Services should return to normal after this time. Traffic via Sydney will not be affected during this time. AEMO recommends that all market participants with site to site VPN connections currently connected via Brisbane, to switch these connections to the Sydney site as a precaution.
Participants connecting via IPWAN and/or SSL VPN will be automatically connected to the Sydney site and do not need to take any action.

An Actual LOR1 condition has been declared under clause 4.8.4(b) of the National Electricity Rules for the NSW region from 1700 hrs.
The Actual LOR1 condition is forecast to exist until 1800 hrs
The capacity reserve requirement is 1340 MW
The minimum capacity reserve available is 1297 MW

At 2026 hrs 12/12/2024 the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7184 and the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7143 tripped.
The cause of the trip was identified as due to lightning.
In accordance with SO_OP_3715, AEMO now considers the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7184 and the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7143 to be vulnerable with a category of probable due to lightning.

At 2026 hrs 12/12/2024 the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7184 and the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7141 tripped.
The cause of the trip was identified as due to lightning.
In accordance with SO_OP_3715, AEMO now considers the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7184 and the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7141 to be vulnerable with a category of probable due to lightning.
