ElectraNet has published a Project Specification Consultation Report (PSCR) for the Managing the Risk of South East SVC Control System Failure Project under the Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T), as required by the National Electricity Rules clause 5.16.
The PSCR, which is the first stage of the RIT-T process, identifies only one economically feasible option, which is to replace the two end-of-life Static VAR Compensator (SVC) computer control systems at the South East substation between 2024 and 2026.
The SVC computer control systems are at end of life and require replacement to avoid loss of transfer capability of the Heywood Interconnector should one or both the SVC control systems fail.
