AEMO has completed consultation on the development of the initial Wholesale Demand Response (WDR) Guidelines by publishing its Final Report and Determination.
Under the Wholesale Demand Response Mechanism (WDRM), from 24 October 2021, consumers will be able to sell demand response in the National Electricity Market. The WDRM Rule introduces a new market participant category, the Demand Response Service Provider (DRSP).
The initial WDR Guidelines will come into effect on 24 June 2021.
Background
Under the Wholesale Demand Response Mechanism (WDRM) rule change (ERC0247) in the National Electricity Market (NEM), AEMO is required to develop WDR Guidelines under clause 3.10.1 of the National Electricity Rules (NER). The initial guidelines must be made and published by 24 June 2021, being four months before the date of commencement of the WDRM, in accordance with clause 11.125.2(a)(1) of the NER.
AEMO established the WDR Guidelines Technical Working Group (WDRG‑TWG) to enable effective dialogue between AEMO and stakeholders on matters related to the development of the WDR Guidelines. Meeting packs and meeting notes for the WDRG-TWG are available here.
