Australia’s energy system has a governance structure that includes AEMO, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC), the Energy Security Board (ESB) and the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Energy Council.
AEMO is an independent organisation that operates on a user-pays cost-recovery basis, with all operating costs recovered through fees paid by industry participants. Our ownership is shared between government and industry.
AEMO has identified a potential system risk with the provision of Regulation Frequency Control Ancillary Service (FCAS) associated with the upcoming commissioning of additional large-scale battery storage capacity in the NEM. To mitigate this risk to system security, some additional measures will be required to be introduced into the NEM.
AEMO will be hosting briefings for interested stakeholders to explain the risk, the proposed additional measures and seek comments.
