Q&A – new generation connections to Victorian transmission system
We have developed a Q&A document (290 KB, pdf) providing information on the impact of new generation connections to the Victorian transmission system close to the Ballarat–Waubra–Horsham and Horsham – Red Cliffs 220kV lines.

Connection process review
In March 2019, AEMO engaged Andrews Group to undertake a review of the overall efficacy of the connection process with respect to the industry’s goals, expectations and objectives. The review included research with AEMO’s internal and external stakeholders. As part of its external research, Andrews Group prepared an online survey to obtain further industry feedback, and to test initial findings. The survey results are being used to inform AEMO’s initiatives to improve stakeholder experience in the connection process as it relates to AEMO, including both short term and long term actions.
Connection website and connection documents update
We have restructured and revised our Network Connection webpages to help Connection Applicants navigate to the relevant information and support them further during the connection process. We are still working on the details and further improvements – please bear with us while we finalise this work. In the meantime, we would appreciate your comments.
Past initiatives
Energy in your community (Victoria only)
Information on how electricity transmission developments are managed, who gets involved, and how communities can stay informed and contribute to the connection process in Victoria can be found in AEMO’s Energy Infrastructure in Your Community brochure.
June 2018 update
The AEMC’s Transmission Connection and Planning Arrangements Rule will become effective on 1 July 2018.
The changes will provide for competition in some aspects of transmission connection arrangements in NEM jurisdictions other than Victoria (where there has been a competitive connections process for several years).
For proponents wishing to connect to the transmission network in Victoria, most elements of the new rule do not apply, including the concepts of Dedicated Connection Assets and Identified User Shared Assets. For Victorian connections, proponents are advised to refer to a pre-1 July 2018 version of the National Electricity Rules.
The only material change affecting Victorian transmission connection proponents is that AEMO will respond to connection enquiries received on or after 1 July 2018 within 30 business days of receipt.
